Shark Club Support and FAQ

Tips to Use App

On an iPhone, when I'm on the page with a Map of the hole, it often goes to sleep and when I restart it is on the iPhone home page. How can I get back to the App?

On the iPhone home screen, there will be a blue map icon either in the time or on the front bar. You will have instant access back to the app.

On an Apple Watch I want to keep the distances and display always on. What should I do?

We recommend editing your watch face and selecting a Shark Club complication, so you have instant access back to the app.

You can also set Shark Club to stay displayed on your Apple Watch:

  • Settings
  • General
  • Return to Clock
  • Shark Club
  • Custom
  • Always
How do I go to the next hole?

On the iPhone or Android phone you can do any of these:

  • 1. Swipe left or right for next/previous holes when the hole is recentered. A hole is recentered when it is first displayed or you have pressed the recenter button.
  • 2. Press 'PREV' or 'NEXT' on the hole information overlay in the top left of the screen.
  • 3. Enter a score. When pressing Done, it will take you to the next hole.
  • 4. Swiping left/right on the distance view on a paried watch will take you to the previous/next hole on both the device and the watch.
Show me tips to manipulate the map.

The map uses standard touch gestures that work the same on Android and iPhone:

  • 1. Move around the map: Drag left, right, up or down with one finger.
  • 2. Zoom in: Double tap with one finger or spread two fingers apart.
  • 3. Zoom out: Tap once with two fingers or pinch two fingers together.
  • 4. Rotate the map: Place two fingers on the map and twist them.
  • 5. Switch from top-down view to 3D: Place two fingers on the map and drag down.
  • 6. Return from 3D to top-down view: Place two fingers on the map and drag up.
How to I get the split distances?

Ensure in the Shark Club app settings, you have checked split distances and then long press on the map. You will now see the distances split. Between the tee and you and also the distance between you and the middle of the green.

Handicap & Scoring

Can I track my handicap and Stableford scores?
Yes. Shark Club follows the World Handicap System (WHS) rules for tracking handicap, and Stableford scores are shown automatically.
What is the difference between Gross Score and WHS Adjusted Gross?

Gross Score is the actual strokes taken by the player.

WHS Adjusted Gross is the score used for handicap purposes after the World Handicap System applies its rules for pick-ups, missed holes and score caps.

In simple terms:

  • Gross = what the player shot
  • WHS Adjusted Gross = handicap reality after WHS adjustments
What is the World Handicap System (WHS) for pick-ups and missed holes?

Under WHS, a picked-up hole is recorded as Net Double Bogey (NDB) for handicap purposes.

The maximum hole score for handicap is:

Par + 2 + any handicap strokes received on that hole

If a hole is missed or marked as no score (M), WHS uses an expected score based on your handicap instead of leaving it blank.

What are Stableford points?

Stableford is a scoring system where you earn points on each hole based on how your score compares to the hole’s par after handicap strokes are applied. (Net par)

Instead of simply counting total strokes, you score points per hole.:

  • Double bogey or worse: 0 points
  • Bogey: 1 point
  • Par: 2 points
  • Birdie: 3 points
  • Eagle: 4 points
  • Albatross: 5 points

Net par means par after your handicap strokes have been applied.

How is my handicap calculated?

Official World Handicap System (WHS)

Your official handicap index is calculated using the average of your best 8 Score Differentials from your last 20 rounds.

A Score Differential measures how well you played compared to the course difficulty. It is calculated using:

(Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 ÷ Slope Rating

The WHS system then averages the lowest 8 differentials from your most recent 20 rounds to produce your Handicap Index.

How Shark Club calculates your handicap

Shark Club follows the same WHS principles. As you record rounds, the app calculates your Score Differential for each round and then averages the best 8 of your most recent 20 rounds.

If you have fewer than 20 rounds recorded, the app follows the WHS rules for calculating a handicap using a smaller number of scores until you reach 20 rounds.

This allows Shark Club to give you a realistic handicap progression while keeping calculations consistent with the World Handicap System.
